Platform economy database
Database of initiatives and court cases in the EU
Eurofound’s platform economy database provides information on 403 initiatives and court cases that exist or have been implemented in relation to activities in the platform economy. The database was last updated in December 2024 and provides metadata for each entry, such as geographical scope, year, type of initiative, actors involved, sector and companies concerned. Initiatives include legal instruments such as legislative changes or court decisions, as well as voluntary interventions undertaken by different stakeholders to address issues around platform work.

In 2016, the General Confederation of Labour (Confédération générale du travail) focused on the unionisation of self-employed platform workers in its 2016 annual congress. Since then it has encouraged the creation of local unions with the aim to defend and represent platform workers’ interests. In the south-west region of Gironde (Bordeaux) for example, the bike courier CGT union has been established, which represents around 700 food delivery riders of various platforms such as Foodora, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
