Description

The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) incorporates union branches dedicated to delivery work in Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Paris and Toulouse.

The CGT Livraison 2 Roues Lyon was formed in spring 2019 from the CGT Committee of Precarious Workers, with the purpose of federating the workers of the delivery platforms and collectively establishing their claims. The union aims to defend the rights of platform workers and to increase its membership base. Numerous mobilisations have been organised since 2019, including several strikes against the drop in pay in March 2020, as well as a campaign of calls for stopping work and demanding higher remuneration especially in light of the increasing strains and health threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The section works in conjunction with other CGT organisations, including the numerous delivery workers’ unions.

In October 2020, the constitutive congress of the CGT Uber Eats/Deliveroo Lyon union was held, in the presence of representatives of the National Federation of CGT Transport Unions and of the CGT Transport Federation.

In 2021, CGT Uber Eats/Deliveroo Lyon supported protests against Deliveroo and Uber, which took place across France demanding better remuneration (workers had seen remuneration decrease as the number of deliverers per company increased), a more stable employment status and the termination of illegitimate suspensions. In October 2021, the CGT Union of Uberized Toulousians called for a strike by deliverers to demand better working conditions.

The CGT Union of Uberized Toulousians was established in July 2020 as a response to dropping prices of deliveries, which considerably worsened working conditions for deliverers. Among others, the union demands a significant increase in prices for the services offered by Uber Eats and Deliveroo, the regularisation of undocumented migrants, better social protection at Uber Eats and Deliveroo, better working conditions at Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Rocket and Just Eat, negotiations with the management of Just Eat and support for bicycle maintenance and insurance at Just Eat.

With similar objectives, the CGT delivery union branch in Paris was formed in June 2021.

The Loire-Atlantique Autonomous Couriers Union (Syndicat des Coursiers Autonomes de Loire-Atlantique, SCALA)is the CGT branch that was established in Nantes in December 2019. The group aims to federate delivery platform couriers and to collectively establish claims.

The CGT section Syndicat des Coursiers à vélo de la Gironde (SCVG) was already created in 2017. It was one of the collectives, which participated in the creation of the Transnational Couriers Federation in November 2018.
