Description

The network consists of an international cooperation between trade unions and social partners in the Danube region. It has been operational between 2020 and 2021. By initiating the project cooperation, the Austrian Trade Union Federation aimed to increase the involvement of workers and workers’ representatives and to strengthen transnational solidarity.

The project is divided into two parts:

  • “The Future of Work” focuses on the digitalisation of the labor market in the Danube region, especially in Slovenia, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia and the southern regions of Ukraine: the Transcarpathian region, Chernivtsi region and Ivano-Frankivsk. This part featured national and international conferences in the Republic of Moldavia, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Austria; seminars on digitalisation in areas where there is a need for action pertaining to protecting the interests of workers; and continuous exchange between the project partners on current developments. The events were attended by trade unions as well as national ministries and employers' organizations. Their objectives were to identify needs for action in the context of the digital revolution and the related challenges and opportunities for workers, as well as to work out possible strategies for the social partners to meet these challenges.

  • Since close attention is paid to work through online platforms and false self-employment in this context, the aim of the second part "Platform Work” is to establish a network for platform workers and experts on labour law and digitalisation; to establish a network community of platform workers; to arrange a “Digi Day” in all partner countries; and to plan seminars on platform work for Austrian works councils (among others, one event hosted a member of the Lieferando works council).

The project also serves as a preparation for the future Danube Region project from 2023 onwards. The aim of the project is to contribute to fair working conditions in the Danube countries with the participation of the social partners and thus prevent precarious working conditions and the growing brain drain from these countries.
