Description

In October 2018, the Transnational Federation of Couriers was established, representing platform workers across Europe. Its aim is to improve the working conditions of workers in the platform economy. The founding summit was held in Brussels and was attended by representatives of workers’ collectives from Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The representatives agreed on the following common demands:

  • Freedom of association
  • Hourly guaranteed minimum wage
  • A fair definition of working time
  • Data and App Transparency
  • Job Security
  • Insurance
  • Workers choose to be employed or to work as freelancers
  • Recognition of platforms as employers
  • Participation for all riders
  • Regular negotiations mediated by city and municipal councils
  • Legal protection of all non-EU-migrant workers (who may not have resident permits)
  • Solidarity with other precarious and gig economy workers
  • Respect
  • Common space for riders
  • Abolish internal ranking

Interviews with workers who attended the meeting can be found here. However, as of October 2021 there is no record of any further activities of the Transnational Federation of Couriers.
