Database of initiatives and court cases in the EU
Eurofound’s platform economy database provides information on 386 initiatives and court cases that exist or have been implemented in relation to activities in the platform economy. The database was last updated in February 2024 and provides metadata for each entry, such as geographical scope, year, type of initiative, actors involved, sector and companies concerned. Initiatives include legal instruments such as legislative changes or court decisions, as well as voluntary interventions undertaken by different stakeholders to address issues around platform work.

On 25 May 2015, the Court of Milan approved an interim injunction against Uber's 'UberPop' service, which matches demand for car rides with providers owning private cars. This was in favour of various Taxi Drivers Associations who had brought the case together. The Court ruled that the UberPop service was a direct competitor for taxi drivers and cannot be considered car, or ride sharing, but rather shares the same features as public transport services like taxis. According to the court, UberPop's use of surge pricing violated competition law.
