Description

From 1 January 2026, self-employed platform workers in Belgium will be covered by compulsory accident insurance under ordinary law. The cost will be borne by the platforms.

This new law aims to address the lack of insurance coverage for platform workers, who are often at high risk of workplace accidents. It guarantees compensation for accidents that occur while working, as well as during commutes to and from the job. Additionally, a "Work injury fund" will be established to cover victims if platforms fail to provide insurance, ensuring that workers will be compensated regardless of their platform's compliance.
