Description

In November 2022, the Belgian transport union ABVV-BTB and Uber announced a collaboration to improve working conditions for drivers using the Uber app in Belgium

This is the first agreement of its kind in the European Union.

The agreement seeks to improve protection for drivers as Uber and ABVV-BTB will cooperate through social dialogue on issues related to the working conditions of drivers. The issues on which the union and ABVV-BTB will cooperate are:

  • Representation: Union representatives will be involved in Uber's Driver Hub to assist drivers with representation questions and challenges. In addition, ABVV-BTB and Uber leadership will meet quarterly to discuss driver feedback and concerns.
  • Promoting working conditions: ABVV-BTB will work with Uber on issues relevant to platform work, including the experience of working with the Uber app, and driver health and safety.
  • Appeal procedure: ABVV-BTB will play a role as drivers' representative in cases when they file an appeal against the loss of access to the Uber app.
