Description

On 16 May 2013 newspaper publishers Wegener and Media Groep Limburg, the Mecom Group's Dutch operations, announced plans to cut more than 500 jobs by 2015.

In detail, the plan (525-545 redundancies) refers to 125 jobs in the editorial boards, 100 jobs in the support services and 60-70 ones in the printing operations (with the possibility of closure for 2 of them).

The restructuring is due to a sharp fall on advertising revenues in 2012 (compared to 2011).

The consultation period with the works council is expected to end by the end of July.

Updated, 13-07-2013

As announced, the Dutch newspaper publisher Wegener is to close only one of its printing operations.

The closure refers only to the printing site in Enschede which currently employs 61 people, whereas at the Heerlen site only job cuts will take place. The timeline for the restructuring is not yet available.
