Planned merger between Dutch national daily Algemeen Dagblad (AD) and seven regional newspapers at the end of August 2005 will result in some 325 job cuts, the publishers of the involved newspapers PCM and Wegener said. The seven regional newspapers are De Dordtenaar, Rijn en Gouwe, de Haagsche Courant/Goudsche Courant, Utrechts Nieuwsblad/Amersfoortse Courant and Rotterdams Dagblad. The merged newspaper will have some 800 employees. The merger is still subject to the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities.
