Description

Newspaper publisher Wegener announced on 26 June 2008 that it will cut 395 to 465 jobs in the coming year. The job losses are attributed to a structural decline in turnover. The restructuring plan will mainly affect marketing and sales jobs at the Wegener’s head office in Apeldoorn. The union of journalists NVJ does not approve the restructuring plan undertaken by the company's new owner Mecom (an investment company).

As reported, the Netherlands applied for assistance from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).
