Description

The management of the clothing company C&A has announced a reorganisation project that will result in the closure of 30 stores in France (out of 150) and 13 stores in Germany (out of 450).

In France, 216 jobs will be cut in 2020. In 2019, C&A had announced the closure of 14 stores in France (out of a total of 160) and the loss of 120 jobs. The first set of measures taken in the summer of 2019 have not been 'sufficient, according to the management' reported a trade unionist of Force Ouvrière. Although this first operation has not yet been completed, the company announced this new reorganisation. The group closed eight stores in France in 2018, and 13 in 2017.

In Germany, C&A has not given details on the number of job cuts, but it can be estimated that over 100 people are affected. A company spokesperson reported on 24 January that affected stores are located in Saxony-Anhalt, Baden-Wuerttemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, Bavaria, Berlin and Brandenburg. The spokesperson stressed that the company will find reemployment solution for the affected employees.

C&A employs 50,599 people worldwide including 30,657 in Europe, out of which 13,500 in Germany.
