Description
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, a Polish hard-coal mining company based in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, announced an internal restructuring programme affecting its mining operations in the Silesian region. The restructuring is set to begin in May 2026 and will unfold in stages. In 2026, over 1,000 employees are expected to leave, including 560 in May 2026.
Overall, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) reported that 4,248 employees may leave under protective instruments, including mining leaves, leaves for mechanical coal processing plant employees and one-off severance payments, with the process running until 2031. JSW links the measures to improving liquidity and reducing labour costs amid a difficult financial situation.
The programme involves measures agreed with public authorities and representative trade union organisations.
