Description

Osram, a German-Austrian technology group specialising in lighting and sensor solutions, has announced plans to cut 1,000 jobs in Europe Osram 2026 - WO. The majority of these reductions will affect positions in Germany, particularly affecting the semiconductor business in Regensburg, as production for established products is being relocated to Asia to make room for high-tech, automated manufacturing. The Herbrechtingen site will also be affected.

The company is restructuring to improve its competitiveness and financial flexibility, following the sale of its non-optical sensor business to Infineon and the launch of an efficiency initiative called “Simplify.” The goal is to streamline operations, recover financial stability, and free up capital to invest in growth areas such as digital photonics.

The company emphasises that the job cuts will be managed in a socially responsible manner.

The job cuts are part of a global restructuring program under which 2,000 jobs are to be eliminated worldwide Osram 2026 - WO. Later last year, Osram announced already that its Schwabmünchen site is to be closed, impacting 270 positions Osram 2025 - DE.

Osram currently employs around 19,000 people worldwide, including about 7,500 in Europe and 10,700 in Asia.
