Description
Osram, a German manufacturer of lighting equipment, announced 270 job cuts due to the closing of their factory in Schwabmünchen (Bavaria). The job losses were announced by the company on 22 October 2025 and are implemented by the end of 2027.
The management attributes the decision to a business downturn and growing competition from Asian companies. Osram also attempted to sell the factory, but the effort was unsuccessful. 210 positions in metal manufacturing will be eliminated through layoffs, while 60 employees working in LED phosphor manufacturing and development have been offered positions at the company’s facility in Regensburg. In total Osram employs 270 workers at its Schwabmünchen location.
Workers reacted to the announcement by protesting in front of the factory. In mid-November, negotiations on a social plan are planned with the collective bargaining partners.
Osram is a subsidiary of the ams Osram group which is employing nearly 20,000 people worldwide.
