European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Ericsson, the Swedish telecommunications company, has announced that it will cut about 5,000 jobs worldwide.
The programme includes restructuring of its European operations, including Spain, Portugal, and France. The company plans to dissolve its Iberia unit, moving Portugal into a new Western Europe division alongside countries such as France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, while Spain remains directly affected by workforce reductions (300 job cuts) Ericsson 2025-ES In Spain, a collective redundancy programme is negotiated with local trade unions. In Portugal, no large-scale layoffs have been officially announced, but the reorganisation may lead to job losses due to overlapping functions following the consolidation. In France, the company plans to cut 134 jobs Ericsson 2025-FR .
These measures are linked to Ericsson’s decision to reduce the number of European business units and integrate Europe into the broader EMEA region to improve efficiency and address challenging market conditions in the telecommunications sector.
The restructuring programme will also affect 100 employees in Canada.

Updated, 23/01/2026 Ericsson España has officially announced its intention to initiate an Employment Redundancy File (ERE), informing both employees and trade unions. The company has not yet disclosed the scope or number of potential layoffs. However, if the process were to affect the entire organisation, it could involve at least 220 employees. The company has emphasised that it intends to manage the process with maximum respect for all employees, ensuring transparency and full compliance with legal procedures.
