European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Ericsson is preparing to dismiss over 300 jobs in Spain, approximately 13% of its 2,260 workforce in Spain, as part of a broader restructuring of its European operations. The decision follows a global reorganisation process that reduced the company’s business units from seven to four, aimed at improving operational efficiency by eliminating duplicate functions. Although Ericsson Spain had previously avoided major job losses already experienced at the group’s Stockholm headquarters in 2023, it will now be significantly impacted. The company’s Spanish operations, which include major R&D centres in Madrid, Málaga, and Barcelona, had long been regarded as strategically important due to their proximity to key telecom clients such as Telefónica, Orange, and Vodafone. The restructuring integrates European, Middle Eastern, and African operations under a new regional model, placing Spanish leadership under the authority of Ericsson’s European head. Despite the planned cuts, Ericsson España posted solid financial results in 2024, with an 11% rise in profit and an 8.2% increase in revenue.
