Description
The French airline Air France has announced 1,510 job cuts by 2022. Management states that these job cuts have nothing to do with the coronavirus epidemic and are aimed at improving the airline's profitability. Air France will not proceed to redundancies or voluntary departures. The reduction in staff numbers will only be achieved through the 3,800 natural departures which will take place between now and the end of 2022. Over the same period, Air France will hire 2,300 pilots, flight attendants and stewards as well as maintenance staff. Air France is thus set to decrease its workforce from 41,230 employees at the end of 2019 to 39,720 at the end of 2022. Other austerity measures have already been announced at Air France to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, but without any immediate staff cuts. These mainly involve reducing non-urgent expenditure or freezing hiring for services not directly linked to operations.
