Description

Nissan Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary of the Japanese multinational car manufacturer, announced a collective dismissal plan that will affect between 400 and 600 workers. The workforce adjustment considers a maximum of 500 early retirement. At the same time, the company has announced an investment of €70 million in a new paint plant. This was a demand of the unions since it may imply that the Barcelona plant continues to operate in the long term. However, the Nissan works council makes a negative assessment of the announcement for the lack of guarantees regarding the future of Nissan in Barcelona as the possibility of manufacturing a new model to increase the low levels of existing production. On the other hand, the company argues that the Barcelona's plant has given €2 million less profit than last year. This collective dismissal comes after the company expanded its staff in 2014 and 2015.
