Description

The regional newspaper  "Le Progrès" announced a voluntary departures plan to cut 77 positions. The plan targets 27 editorial positions, 30 in administrative services and 20 in technical services, out of a total staff of about 500. This voluntary redundancy plan comes three weeks after the presentation to the works council of the new strategy of the newspaper and, more broadly, of the group Ebra, the owner of the title. The aim is to focus on the development of the web. In this context, four job creations are also planned: two of community managers, one of webmaster and one of video editor.

According to the SNJ union, negotiations with staff representatives will open on 27 March, with an agreement expected mid-June by management. The first departures would start from September. The voluntary departure plan would be spread over ten months. The union is concerned about the risk of intensifying the pace of work for the remaining employees. A former social plan occured in 2006 with 130 job cuts.
