Description
The US-based global electronics manufacturing company Jabil has started redundancy consultations with 260 employees at its Livingston site in West Lothian, Scotland. The management intends to phase out manufacturing at the Livingston plant by the end of 2017 but retain 100 employees who will continue to provide support to the company’s regional and global business. The Livingston facility provides advice on process improvement to large firms across the IT, communications, aerospace, and defence industries. Two years ago Jabil received a substantial grant from the Scottish economic development agency to create 212 jobs.
The local economy of Livingston has recently suffered the loss of 400 jobs with the closure of Ethicon, a surgical sutures manufacturer owned by Johnson & Johnson.
