Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Building Components –SK, a Slovakian subsidiary of Danish company Velux , will expand its production of roof windows in Male Bielice nearby Partizanske. In addition to the existing 435 jobs, the new investment of € 6 million will create up to 80 new jobs in one production hall and one store.
According to Director General of Velux Groupbusiness expansion in Partizanske is part of a strategic transformation of the group’s European production and supply network aimed at strengthening competiveness. Central and Eastern Europe are considered developing markets and new investment in these areas brings production nearer to this market. The decision is also motivated by the availability of a well-skilled labour force in the region.
In recent weeks Velux has been challenged by unions in Denmark for moving jobs from factories in Denmark and Scotland to Hungary and Slovakia with some indications that European funds assisted these developments. A previous job creation in Eastern Europe was also recorded in Poland in 2012.
