Description

Window manufacturer Velux has announced that it is to close its manufacturing site in Glenrothes, Fife with the loss of up to 180 jobs. The Danish owned company which manufactures roof windows and skylights at the Scottish site has said that the site in Glenrothes will close by autumn 2015. Under these proposals the manufacturing company 'Fife Joinery Manufacturing' will close and its distribution business will be relocated to other parts of the UK.  The company has announced that the sales and marketing division, located at a neighbouring site, will be expanded with the creation of 30 new jobs.

The company also announced that it would close its factory in Bagsvaerd in Denmark, with the loss of 65 jobs.

A spokesperson for the UK operations noted that a consultation process had started with employee representatives and it was hoped that some of the 180 affected by the closure of the manufacturing business would be able to apply for the sales and marketing jobs or would be able to relocate to other parts of the distribution business.
