Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Finnish branch of the global IT- and software consultancy firm CGI announced plans to cut up to 350 jobs. As reported, the co-determination procedure was launched and the job reduction measure will start taking place by the end of 2014.
The restructuring is explained by the general economic situation with slow growth in the IT- and software consultancy sector and the high competition.
CGI operates in 40 countries with a total of 70,000 employees worldwide. The company established its Finnish branch in 2012 when it acquired the Finnish company Logica.
Update 14-11-2014: CGI announced that the outcome of the procedure was the reduction of 270 jobs rather than the initial estimate of 350.
