On 21 December 2012, chemical company Sumika Electronics Materials announced plans to cut 156 jobs at the unit in Ostaszewo near Toru? (Pomeranian Special Economic Zone).

These dismissals are directly associated with the restructuring programme at Sharp Manufacturing Poland (see here), which is a main customer of Sumika Electronics Materials.

Founded in 2003 Sumika Electronics Materials is a part of the Japanese chemical group Sumimoto Chemical Company. Currently, the unit in Ostaszewo employs 185 people. The factory produces LCD components.
