Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Japanese electronics company Sharp Manufacturing Poland announced plans to cut 211 jobs at the unit in Ostaszewo near Toru? (Pomeranian Special Economic Zone).
Witalis Korecki, director of the factory, said the dismissals are due to a shrinking order book and the general deterioration of situation on the TV set market.
The factory in Ostaszewo has been operating since 2007 and currently employs 1070 people. The company had undergone large scale restructuring in 2010, laying off 1,000 people (see here).
