Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 6 December 2011, Polish electricity producer and distributor PGE Dystrybucja presented details on the second edition of a voluntary early retirement programme for this year (see here). Nearly 160 employees applied to the new wave of the programme until the end of November.
After large consolidations PGE Dystrybucja has been carrying out in 2010, the restructuring aims at increasing financial and organizational effectiveness.
The first wave of early retirements, implemented in July 2011, affected 270 workers. Every dismissal programme within the company is consulted on with the local trade unions.
PGE Dystrybucja employs over 12,000 people across Poland.
