Description
The car manufacturer Pininfarina announced the cut of 120 blue-collar jobs in its plant in Uddevalla by mid-2010. This is due to a drop in demand. The company stated that the restructuring is not a consequence of Ford's plans to sell Volvo. Pininfarina is a subcontractor to Volvo. The affected joint venture site is co-owned by Pininfarina (60%) and Volvo (40%) and manufactures the Volvo C70.
Pininfarina manufacturers and engineers motor vehicles in Italy, Germany, Sweden, Morocco and China and has a total of workforce of around 3000 people. The uncertain future of Volvo and Saab has lead to a number of restructuring measures among Sweden-based automotive suppliers (see previously published fact sheets 14937, 14947, 14967).
