Description
On 10 November 2008, the express mail delivery and logistics company DHL announced to cut around 9,500 jobs in the USA. DHL, a division of Germany's postal giant Deutsche Post, is to exit domestic-only air and ground services in the U.S. by the end of January 2009. All ground hubs will be closed and only 103 out of currently 412 stations will remain open in the U.S. DHL Express stated to focus on its international (shipping) business in the region. This move is motivated by heavy finanical losses the company suffered on the US market. It follows the announcement of another 4,000 job losses in the US in spring 2008 (seeĀ previous factsheet).
