Description
OPmobility, a French automotive supplier, announced plans to cut around 460 jobs in Germany as part of its ongoing cost-cutting drive for 2026. The cuts affect the production plant in Sterbfritz, which is expected to close. Other sites, including Munich and Pappenheim, are also expected to be affected.
The restructuring is driven by a slowdown in automotive demand, reduced activity from key customers, and delays in hydrogen mobility projects, which have prompted a reorganisation of research activities. Increased competition from China and geopolitical uncertainty are also driving the restructuring.
The decision follows broader efforts to align production capacity with market conditions while maintaining investment in high-growth regions. The job losses will be spread across Sterbfritz and other German sites. Following the expected closure of the Sterbfritz plant, production is set to be transferred to other locations. OPmobility operates 152 production sites and 40 research centres worldwide, employing approximately 38,100 people globally.
The job cuts are part of a broader restructuring plan that also affects operations in France: OP mobility 2026 - FR.
