Description
RHI Magnesita, an Austrian refractory-manufacturing company, announced the closure of its two French plants in Valenciennes and Flaumont-Waudrechies, cutting around 150 jobs in total. The plants, which produce high-temperature refractory products made from dolomite, for the steel and cement industries will shut down.
The decision stems from structural difficulties, rising energy costs and intensified international competition. The group initiated a closure procedure at the sites. A job saving plan with employee representatives is currently underway.
Three prior large-scale restructuring by RHI have been recorded in the ERM database, with the latest in 2009 RHI 2009 - DE.
