Description
Selezione, a Romanian garment company, has announced that it is to shut down its production facility in Braşov, Romania, resulting in the redundancy of 152 employees.
The closure is the result of a severe lack of orders and a trend of luxury brands progressively lowering the prices they are willing to pay for manufacturing. The factory produced goods for major luxury houses, including Dior (LVMH), Gucci (Kering), and Tod's. Following an inquiry by the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre in November 2024, Dior provided a formal response regarding the situation, while Kering and Tod's did not offer a statement.
The closure highlights a broader trend in the Romanian textile industry where luxury brands are shifting orders to other regions or demanding lower production costs, directly impacting the viability of local manufacturing sites. In 2024, two Romanian garment companies announced collective dismissal programmes: Artsana cut up to 261 jobs Artsana Romania 2024-RO , while Serconf cut 163 positions Serconf 2024-RO .
