Aldi, the German supermarket chain, plans to hire more than 1,000 employees in Spain in 2026, as part of its expansion strategy that includes the opening of 40 new supermarkets this year. The German retailer expects to recruit around 1,100 new professionals, bringing its total workforce in Spain to over 9,000 employees, compared with more than 8,000 currently. Over the past three years, the company’s Spanish workforce has grown by 14%.
Aldi closed 2025 with 498 stores and seven logistics platforms in Spain, having nearly reached the 500-store milestone. More than half of the new openings will be concentrated in Catalonia, Andalusia, Madrid, and the Valencian Community, while expansion will also continue in Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Aragón, Murcia, the Basque Country and Cantabria.
The company’s growth is supported by its strong focus on competitive pricing and private-label products, which account for 90% of its assortment. According to several sources, Aldi ended 2025 with a 2% market share, up 0.2 percentage points, making it one of the fastest-growing chains in Spain. During the past year, 41.2% of shoppers purchased at Aldi at least once, the highest penetration growth in the sector.
The company has recently experienced several business creation periods in 2023 Aldi 2023-ES and 2025 Aldi 2025-ESAldi 2025-ES, with 600, 280 and 300 new jobs, respectively
