Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German fashion e-commerce retailer Zalando announced plans to cut 180 jobs in Berlin due to the closure of their “Zalando Content Solutions” division which is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and expected to be completed by December 2026.
The job losses are set out by the dissolution of the “Zalando Content Solutions” division. This unit provided content services for brands and retailers in the Zalando Partner Program and had previously produced product images. The company explains the dissolution by stating that external service providers can produce content more flexibly, cost effectively and at greater scale than the internal team. At the same time, customer expectations for high quality content have increased.
How the dismissal procedure will take place and whether communications with the employee representatives was picked up is currently not specified.
Zalando is a leading fashion e-commerce platform in Europe and serves customers in 25 countries. The company employs around 15,000 people worldwide.
Previous internal restructurings were recorded in the ERM database in January 2026, with 2700 job cuts Zalando 2026 - DE.
