European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Wollsdorf Leder, an Austrian leather manufacturer in the automotive supply sector, has filed for insolvency at its St. Ruprecht an der Raab site in Styria, announcing that approximately 365 employees are affected.
The restructuring stems from a prolonged downturn in the automotive industry, compounded by supply chain disruptions due to the foot-and-mouth disease in Hungary and Slovakia, which affected rawhide availability and quality.
Job reduction measures will primarily involve dismissals. The social partners and local authorities have expressed concern about the economic impact on the municipality, including lost tax revenues and reduced community support, while local officials hope some production might continue locally.
Wollsdorf Leder has historically been a key regional employer since 1976, supporting the local economy and community projects, with prior restructuring measures already implemented abroad.
