Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Oracle, the American provider of enterprise software, has announced the intention to lay off 404 persons in Romania by the end of 2025. The company started a global restructuring process in September 2025 Oracle-2025 World.
Oracle states is shifting its resources toward cloud services, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence technologies, and that it intends to offer significant compensation packages, calculated on the seniority of the company. The smallest packages start at three months' wage for employees with between zero- and three-years’ seniority. The maximum compensation is 12 wages for those who have worked for at least 11.5 years in the company. In addition to compensation, there is an extended notice period of two months, double the 20 working days normally provided by the labour code.
The Oracle Group currently has over 4,400 employees in Romania, organised into three companies: Oracle Romania, Oracle Global Services Romania, and Oracle Sovereign Cloud. The Romanian divisions of Oracle reportedly underwent a round of restructuring in 2023.
