Description

American multinational technology company Microsoft has announced that it will cut 1,900 jobs worldwide, including 136 positions in Ireland.

The dismissals will be carried out at Blizzard Entertainment which was recently acquired by Microsoft in a deal worth $69 million. Following the acquisition, Microsoft announced that it would be cutting 1,900 jobs across its video-gaming divisions, including at Blizzard.

According to People Before Profit TD Mick Barry, the company has refused to engage with the trade union chosen to represent the workers. Martin noted that the planned redundancies were very serious for the affected employees.

The restructuring event in Ireland has been recorded in the ERM events database Blizzard Entertainment-2024-IE.
