Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The American multinational e-commerce company Amazon has announced that the construction of its second distribution centre in the Czech Republic has been completed. Full operation in the logistics centre, located in Kojetín (Přerov region), is planned for 2023. The centre will employ up to 2,000 permanent workers; Amazon has started the recruitment campaign. The new logistics centre will be equipped with special robotic elements. It is assumed that this state-of-the-art logistics complex will help Amazon in its further expansion in the e-commerce sector, positioning it well for strategic logistic advantage. For the region, the centre is considered beneficial due to the large number of new job opportunities.
Amazon's first distribution centre in the Czech Republic, located in Dobrovíz near Prague, has been operating since 2015. In October 2022, a production plant was launched in Panattoni Park Chomutov, with Amazon announcing the recruitment of 200 new employees to work in the Plant.
Previous business expansions were recorded in the ERM database earlier this year, with the announcement of 200 new jobs created in April 2021 (Amazon-2022-CZ), and 600 jobs created in April 2020 (Amazon-2020-CZ).
