Description
Aldi, the Germany-based global discount retailer, has announced that it will close its distribution centre in Best, the Netherlands. The closure of the distribution centre means that all 150 employees, including truck drivers, order pickers and office staff, will lose their jobs. As of June 2021, it is still unclear when the employment effect will take place.
Aldi faces increasing competition on the Dutch retail market and regards the distribution centre in Best as 'not future proof'. The activities of the location in Best will be taken over by nearby distribution centres in Culemborg, Roermond and Roosendaal.
Trade unions have been invited to discuss a social plan.
Aldi is a discount supermarket chain with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries. In August 2020, Aldi has already closed its offices and disctribution centre in Zaandam, the Netherlands, making all 125 employees at the Zaandam location redundant.
