Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
TietoEVRY, the Finnish IT software and service company, is relocating jobs from Estonia to the city of Vaasa, in Finland. The Estonian office has been offering IT support primarily to Finnish and Swedish-speaking corporate customers. The relocation is part of a general integration process due to the merging of the Finnish company Tieto and the Norwegian company EVRY in 2020.
In addition to Vaasa's international profile, a good university network and skilled labour with diverse expertise, the bilingual profile of the region was a central reason for the choice of location. Recruiting staff with these language skills has become challenging in Estonia, with a significant portion of the employees coming from Finland or Sweden.
TietoEVRY is a software company that operates in 90 countries and employs approximately 24,000 globally. The company is based in Finland, where they have 3,361 employees at 15 locations. The Vaasa office employs 30 people. After the expansion, the Vaasa office will have 190 employees.
