Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tieto Estonia, a subsidiary of the Finnish IT-company, will shed 180 jobs from their international support service centre by the end of September 2021. It is a result of internal restructuring which is motivated by the merger between two companies: the Finnish company Tieto and the Norwegian company EVRY. 160 jobs will be relocated to Finland, 10 to Latvia and 10 to Czechia. As the Estonian centre provides support services mostly to clients speaking Finnish and Swedish, a number of employees have been recruited from Finland and Sweden to Estonia. Therefore it is made possible by the company for the employees to move with their job from Estonia to Finland. The company will also try to find new jobs for those losing their current job inside the company and they will also provide career counselling services to those affected.
The international support service centre in Estonia was established in 2015.
