The supermarket chain Tesco announced its plans to implement a collective dismissal programme which will cause up to 230 redundancies at the offices in Warsaw and Cracow as well as the closure of 6 hypermarkets across Poland. The programme will affect two occupational categories within the company: up to 84 rank-and-files and up to 146 managerial positions. The conditions of the redundancy programme will be negotiated with the local trade unions; dismissed workers will receive severance pay. The programme will be carried out between 20 August and 31 October 2020.
The programme will not cover 301 shops and 2 distribution centres which are planned to be sold to Salling Group in the fourth quarter of 2020. Tesco revealed that the decision was taken due to economic reasons.
Operating in Poland since 1992, the company has over 300 stores and employs about 10,000 people across the country.
