European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The international aerospace industry company Airbus has announced an adjustment plan that will affect 2,362 employees at international level; 630 workers will be affected in Spain, most of them in its centre located in Seville (Andalucia), focused on manufacturing of military aviation.
The company said the restructuring is due to a slowdown in orders (concretely the transport airplane A400M manufactured in Seville), the emergence of new competitors in the sector, and the freezing of the Boeing 737 MAX production (Airbus manufactured some parts of that model).
Trade unions have rejected these arguments, organising a set of protests in its eight factories in Spain.
Update 01/07/2020:
After a long negotiation with the unions, Airbus has announced that the collective dismissal will affect 900 workers in Spain and 15,000 worlwide. This figure is higher than the expected in February due to the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the aeronautical sector. The company assures they will negotiate with the unions to facilitate voluntary departures and early retirements.
