Description

The Japanese automaker has announced that its plant in Onnaing (Nord), which has been producing the Yaris city car since the site was set up in 1990, will for the first time be entrusted with the production of a second model, an urban SUV. The launch of this new production will increase the workforce from 3,200 permanent employees to 3,600 and recruit 900 employees on fixed-term contracts. Taking into account the practice in the sector of hiring employees on short contracts for at least 6 months, we can consider that the total job creation will be 1,300.

In 2017, the employees and the management of the site had signed a new company agreement, allowing more flexibility in working hours. The hour meter has been set for three years, instead of one year as previously was the case. The start of production of the SUV will be accompanied by additional investment of €100 million, which will bring the total production capacity of the site to 300,000 cars per year, Yaris or SUV.
