Description
Tata Steel has announced to cut 1,600 jobs in the Netherlands. Tata Steel wants to save €175 million on personnel costs as a part of a major restructuring. This major restructure is necessary due to the rising cost of raw materials and the decline in demand for steel. Two third of the 1,600 job cuts will be office and management positions.
This restructuring can lead to some issues since the union ‘FNV Metaal’ will not be accepting compulsory dismissals, and the union underlines that it has an agreement with Tata Steel IJmuiden stating that until 1 October 2021 no employees of Tata Steel IJmuiden can be forced to leave.
