Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Car manufacturing company Opel Manufacturing Poland announced plans to reduce its workforce at the plant in Gliwice by 350 employees. In July 2019, the company launched a voluntary redundancy programme for the plant, which did not meet the target of 350 redundancies. As a result, the company decided to carry out a parallel, compulsory restructuring event to reach its target by the end of 2019. According to report, the decision is related to a fall in the production of passenger cars.
At the same time, the company plans to build a new plant in Gliwice for the production of large vans, which is expected to be operational by 2021. There are reports of speculation as to the redeployment of redundant employees in the new plant.
The company belongs to Groupe PSA and employs around 2,100 people in Gliwice.
