Description
The call centre company Network Contacts announced the start of a collective dismissal procedure for 310 workers employed in its seat in Molfetta, province of Bari, Puglia.
According to the trade unionists representing workers of the company, the dismissal procedure was announced after the union refused to sign an agreement proposed by the company which foresaw significant measures for the reduction of labour costs. According to the unions, these measures would have started a chain reaction in the whole sector, with companies willing to derogate from sectoral agreements.
An assembly of the company's workforce in Molfetta took place on August 7. The union asks for the opening of a crisis table at the Ministry of Economic Development and for involving clients (in some cases also companies belonging to the state), whose procurement policies are considered responsible for the situation.
Currently, the company employs more than 3,000 workers in Italy and is about to hire 200 workers due to the application of a social clause connected to another contract which the company has recently won.
