Description
The Danish iron foundry, Vald. Birn, announced on 14 August 2019 that 80 employees at the iron foundry in Holstebro, Jutland, will be made redundant. The reason is a recession in the German car industry, which has led to a decline over the summer in orders at Vald.Birn. Around 90% of the production of the company is exported, a great part of which goes to the German truck production. The noticed redundancies correspond to 15% of the total employees.
This is the first time in ten years that Vald.Birn uses a collective redundancy measure, which must be notified to the labour market authorities and negotiated with the employees before it can be implemented.
