Description
Dorset Council announced plans to cut 561 jobs from five departments, as it bids to deal with a projected overspend. The restructuring event is considered the last part of the process to combine six councils into one and to remove duplication, in light of challenging budgetary constraints. Reports suggest that finance, human resources and IT are among the affected departments and that the job loss includes both part-time and full-time positions. Trade union Unison urged the council to take necessary measures to avoid compulsory redundancies. The plans are now subject to the statutory 45-day consultation period.
