Description

Following the merger of the two department store chains Kaufhof and Karstadt,  the logistics division of  Galeria Kaufhof Karstadt will be completely restructured. The measure  will affect a total of 160 positions. The number of logistics centers will be reduced to three (Cologne-Porz, Essen, Unna) whereas two logistics plants (Frechen, Erfurt) and four smaller regional distribution centers (Stuttgart, Würzburg, Hanover, Berlin) will be closed. Two distributions centers will be downsized ( Ditzenbach, Neuss).  On the other hand, the new logistics concept entails a significant expansion of the center in Cologne-Porz.

In the future, about 180 department stores shall serve as hubs delivering products directly to the consumers. The works council and the trade union ver.di expect another major jobs cuts still to come.
