Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mano busto prieziura, a Lithuanian company engaged in building administration and public utilities, intends to dismiss 231 employees in different regions of Lithuania. The company has already informed the Employment Service of the planned layoffs. According to the management, the employees are dismissed because their work function became redundant as a result of changes in work organisation. The company decided to dismiss technical staff carrying out the repair work in apartment blocks and to introduce a new system PortalPRO based on sharing economy. According to the management, all Lithuanian craftsmen will be able to connect to the newly created virtual platform, and the company will be able to provide them with a steady flow of orders, flexible work schedules, transparency and earning opportunities. Currently Mano busto prieziura employs 381 employees.
